2. In 2007, the International Indigenous Forum on Biodiversity organized an International Expert Seminar on Indicators Relevant for Indigenous Peoples, the Convention on Biological Diversity and the Millennium Development Goals.

In 1993, the International Indigenous Forum on Biodiversity was established to facilitate indigenous participation in negotiations and dialogue within the framework of article 8 (j).

Significant support has been provided for the participation of indigenous representatives at the meetings of the International Indigenous Forum on Biodiversity, in the framework of the meetings of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and the meetings of other environmental conventions, and at the meetings of the Permanent Forum and the Working Group on Indigenous Populations.

Through its Environmental Rights Fund for Indigenous Peoples and the Indigenous Women's Biodiversity Network, NCIV collaborates with the International Indigenous Forum on Biodiversity on the full, effective participation of indigenous peoples in meetings relevant to the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity and its subsidiary bodies.

We will continue to participate actively in the full process of the Convention on Biological Diversity, through the International Indigenous Forum on Biodiversity, in order to defend and safeguard the biodiversity of our lands and territories, and we call for coherence and consistency in the implementation of the different Rio instruments, with other local, national and regional instruments.

This inter-agency initiative has included in the full-stage project preparation, the collaboration of indigenous peoples professionals, and the comments expressed during the International Indigenous Forum on Biodiversity, in December 2005, related to the need to include indigenous peoples in the selection of the Heritage Systems.
واشتملت هذه المبادرة المشتركة بين الوكالات، في مرحلة الإعداد الكامل للمشروع، على تعاون اختصاصيين من الشعوب الأصلية، والتعليقات المعرب عنها أثناء المنتدى الدولي للشعوب الأصلية المعني بالتنوع البيولوجي، الذي عقد في كانون الأول/ديسمبر 2005، والمتعلقة بالحاجة إلى إشراك الشعوب الأصلية في اختيار نظم التراث الزراعي.

The fifth meeting of the Working Group on Article 8(j) considered the various regional reports on indicators and report of the international expert seminar on indicators relevant for indigenous peoples organized by the International Indigenous Forum on Biodiversity in Banaue on 5-9 March 2007 (see UNEP/CBD/WG8J/5/8).
