8. In considering the proposed plan of work for exploration for polymetallic nodules, the Commission had regard to the principles, policies and objectives relating to activities in the Area as provided for in part XI and annex III of the Convention and in the Agreement.

At its 181st meeting, on 26 July 2012, the Council decided, by consensus, to adopt the regulations on prospecting and exploration for cobalt-rich ferromanganese crusts in the Area as contained in document ISBA/18/C/L.3.

8 - وراعت اللجنة عند نظرها في خطة العمل المقترحة لاستكشاف العقيدات المتعددة الفلزات المبادئ والسياسات والأهداف المتعلقة بالأنشطة في المنطقة على النحو المنصوص عليه في الجزء الحادي عشر والمرفق الثالث من الاتفاقية وفي الاتفاق.

The Authority is competent to take necessary measures in order to ensure effective protection of the marine environment from harmful effects which may arise from activities in the Area as set out in article 145 of the Convention and section 1, paragraph 5 (g) of the 1994 Agreement;
السلطة مختصة باتخاذ التدابير اللازمة من أجل ضمان الحماية الفعالة للبيئة البحرية من الآثار الضارة التي قد تنشأ من الأنشطة المضطلع بها في المنطقة على النحو المنصوص عليه في المادة 145 من الاتفاقية والفقرة 5 (ز) من المادة 1 من اتفاق عام 1994؛

It was established in accordance with article 14 of the Statute and deals with disputes with respect to activities in the Area as defined in article 187 of the Convention and the Implementing Agreement on Part XI. The Chamber is composed of 11 members selected to reflect the world's principal legal systems and according to the principle of equitable geographical distribution.
وأنشئت وفقا للمادة ١٤ من النظام اﻷساسي، وتتناول المنازعات المتعلقة باﻷنشطة في المنطقة على النحو المعرف في المادة ١٨٧ من الاتفاقية والاتفاق المتعلق بتنفيذ الجزء الحادي عشر من الاتفاقية. وتتكون الغرفة من ١١ عضوا يتم اختيارهم بطريقة تعكس النظم القانونية الرئيسية في العالم، ووفقا لمبدأ التوزيع الجغرافي العادل.

Moreover, as provided for in regulation 23 (10), in considering a proposed plan of work for exploration, the Commission is required to have regard to the principles, policies and objectives relating to activities in the Area as provided for in Part XI and annex III of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea and the Agreement.

As provided for in regulation 21 (9), in considering a proposed plan of work for exploration it is also required to have regard to the principles, policies and objectives relating to activities in the Area as provided for in Part XI and annex III of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea and the Agreement.
ويلزم اللجنة أيضا عند النظر في خطة عمل مقترحة للاستكشاف، على النحو المنصوص عليه في المادة 21 (9)، مراعاة المبادئ والسياسات والأهداف المتعلقة بالأنشطة في المنطقة على النحو المنصوص عليه في الجزء الحادي عشر والمرفق الثالث من اتفاقية الأمم المتحدة لقانون البحار والاتفاق.

10/ Article 133 of the Convention defines the resources of the Area as follows: "'Resources' means all solid, liquid or gaseous mineral resources in situ in the Area at or beneath the seabed, including polymetallic nodules. "

In response to the environmental challenges in the region, UNEP continues its close cooperation with the Council of Arab Ministers Responsible for the Environment (CAMRE) and the Technical Secretariat of the League of Arab States (LAS), most notably by, developing its programme to respond to the needs of the countries of the region as outlined in the Arab Initiative on Sustainable Development (AISD). .

3. Political Affairs Officers (P-4/P-3). Assist the Senior Political Adviser to keep abreast of current local, national and regional developments; are required to be familiar with all available information including relevant studies, cables, memoranda, reports, letters, publications, etc.; and prepare specific reports on developments in the region as requested.
