The workshop calls on the countries of the two subregions and developed country Parties, as well as on the subregional, regional and international organizations concerned to consider pest control as part of the effort to combat desertification and to strengthen institutions involved in that area.

In addition, the office organized workshops on transport and trade facilitation and the promotion of intra-African trade for the Eastern and Southern African subregions, with Government representatives from the two subregions, the African Union Commission, the African Development Bank and development corridor groups in Eastern Africa.

The workshop calls upon the countries of the two subregions to promote an environment which increases the ability of civil society components (such as local authorities, the private sector, NGOs and scientific and technical institutions) to implement desertification control projects and to encourage the formation of partnerships between these stakeholders.

The full and expeditious implementation of the objectives and commitments of the Almaty Programme of Action by landlocked developing countries and their transit neighbours in cooperation with their development partners provides an opportunity for the landlocked countries in West and Central Africa to take a step forward towards the improvement of transport infrastructure and transit traffic in the subregions.
إن تحقيق البلدان النامية غير الساحلية وبلدان العبور المجاورة لها الأهداف والالتزامات الواردة في برنامج عمل ألماتي تحقيقاً كاملاً وسريعاً بالتعاون مع شركائها في التنمية يتيح للبلدان غير الساحلية في غرب ووسط أفريقيا فرصة اتخاذ خطوة إلى الأمام في سبيل تحسين الهياكل الأساسية للنقل وحركة العبور في المنطقتين دون الإقليميتين.

It also worked with Member States in Asia Pacific and in West Africa to begin the creation of similar networks in those subregions.
