The delegations emphasized the importance that the Conference of States Parties and signatories to the treaties that establish Nuclear-Weapon-Free Zones would have for the success of the 2005 Review Conference of the Parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons to be held in New York from 2 to 27 May 2005.

Venezuela welcomes the holding of the second Conference of States Parties and Signatories of Treaties that Establish Nuclear-Weapon-Free Zones, to be held in New York next year, as yet another measure taken by the community of non-nuclear-weapon States towards nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation.
وترحب فنزويلا بعقد المؤتمر الثاني للدول الأطراف والدول الموقعة على معاهدات إنشاء مناطق خالية من الأسلحة النووية، المقرر أن ينعقد في نيويورك في العام القادم، بوصفه إجراء آخر اتخذه مجتمع الدول غير الحائزة للأسلحة النووية باتجاه نزع السلاح النووي وعدم الانتشار.

Given that the creation of nuclear-weapon-free zones, on the basis of agreements freely arrived at by interested States, constitutes an important disarmament measure, my delegation will also promote a draft resolution to convene a conference of States parties and Signatories of Treaties establishing such zones before 2005.

The States parties and signatories to the treaties of Tlatelolco, Rarotonga, Bangkok and Pelindaba that are parties to the NPT reaffirm their commitment to promote the common goals envisaged in those treaties, explore and implement further ways and means of cooperation, including the consolidation of the status of the nuclear-weapon-free southern hemisphere and adjacent areas.
