Noting that at its twenty-sixth session the South Pacific Forum had adopted the Waigani Convention, he said that that Convention reflected the importance which Australia and the other States members of the South Pacific Forum attached to the preservation of the South Pacific from the harmful effects of hazardous and radioactive waste.

The Convention was an important milestone in banning the importation of all hazardous and radioactive wastes from outside the Convention area to Pacific island developing States parties, and ensuring that any transboundary movements of hazardous wastes within the Convention area were completed in a controlled and environmentally sound manner.
وكانت الاتفاقية معلما مهما في مجال حظر استيراد جميع النفايات الخطرة والمشعة من خارج منطقة الاتفاقية إلى الدول اﻷطراف النامية الجزرية في المحيط الهادئ، وفي كفالة إتمام أي حركة للنفايات الخطرة عبر الحدود داخل منطقة الاتفاقية بطريقة خاضعة للمراقبة وسليمة من الناحية البيئية.

(ﻫ) واتفاقية وايغاني بشأن حظر استيراد النفايات الخطرة والمشعة إلى البلدان الأعضاء في منتدى البلدان الجزرية ومراقبة حركة النفايات الخطرة عبر الحدود وإدارتها داخل إقليم جنوب المحيط الهادئ.

These include measures to promote sustainable development and environmental protection, including in the areas of climate change and sea-level rise, sustainable management of fisheries and forestry resources, coastal zone management — including coral reefs — biodiversity conservation and management of hazardous and radioactive wastes.

32. The Forum adopted the Convention to Ban the Importation into Forum Island Countries of hazardous and radioactive wastes and to Control the Transboundary Movement and Management of Hazardous Wastes within the South Pacific Region (Waigani Convention) for signature on 16 September 1995.
٣٢ - اعتمد المنتدى اتفاقية حظر استيراد النفايات الخطرة والمشعة إلى بلدان المنتدى الجزرية ومراقبة حركة النفايات الخطرة عبر الحدود وإدارة هذه النفايات داخل منطقة جنوب المحيط الهادئ )اتفاقية وايغاني( للتوقيع عليها في ١٦ أيلول/سبتمبر ١٩٩٥.

The Russian Federation believes that it is necessary to aim for full compliance of Governments, international governmental organizations and non-governmental organizations with existing international principles and rules governing the transboundary movement of hazardous and radioactive waste through the adoption of special measures, including the establishment of a national legal framework and the definition of the various categories of waste.
ويؤمن الاتحاد الروسي بأن من الضروري استهداف امتثال الحكومات والمنظمات الحكومية الدولية والمنظمات غير الحكومية امتثالا تاما للمبادئ والقواعد الدولية القائمة التي تنظم انتقال النفايات الخطرة والمشعة عبر الحدود، باعتماد تدابير خاصة، تشمل إنشاء إطار قانوني وطني وتحديد الفئات المختلفة للنفايات.
