As the intensity of the Israeli military activity in the Occupied Palestinian Territory continued to increase and the humanitarian situation rapidly deteriorated, the High Contracting Parties to the Fourth Geneva Convention convened a Conference on 5 December 2001, focusing on the applicability of the Convention to the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem.
