Concerning the possible establishment of a permanent forum for indigenous people, questionnaires had been sent to all the organs and specialized agencies of the United Nations system to permit an analysis of existing United Nations mechanisms and programmes for indigenous people, and the views of Governments and organizations of indigenous people had been sought, as requested in resolution 50/157.
٦ - وأوضح أنه فيما يتعلق بإمكانية إقامة محفل دائم للسكان اﻷصليين تم توجيه استبيانات إلى جميع اﻷجهزة والوكالات المتخصصة التابعة لمنظومة اﻷمم المتحدة ليتسنى القيام بتحليل ﻵليات وبرامج اﻷمم المتحدة القائمة لصالح السكان اﻷصليين، وتم استطلاع آراء الحكومات ومنظمات السكان اﻷصليين. كما طلب القرار ٥٠/١٥٧.

19. Reaffirms in this context the decision of the Preparatory Committee at its organizational session that its substantive activities should take into account the results of other major United Nations conferences and contributions by other relevant organs and specialized agencies of the United Nations system;
١٩ - تؤكد من جديد في هذا السياق المقرر الذي اتخذته اللجنة التحضيرية في دورتها التنظيمية بأن تراعي في أنشطتها الفنية نتائج المؤتمرات الرئيسية اﻷخرى لﻷمم المتحدة والمساهمات التي تقدمها سائر اﻷجهزة والوكالات المتخصصة في منظومة اﻷمم المتحدة؛

To this end, it decides that a preparatory committee of the General Assembly is to be established next year, that its organizational session will be held in 1998 and that its substantive work will begin in 1999 on the basis of the inputs of the Commission for Social Development and of the Economic and Social Council, also taking into account the contributions of other relevant organs and specialized agencies of the United Nations system.

A preparatory committee of the whole of the General Assembly is to be established at its fifty-second session; the committee will hold an organizational session in 1998, will initiate substantive activities in 1999 on the basis of inputs by the Commission and the Council, and will take into account contributions by other relevant organs and specialized agencies of the United Nations system.

(a) Invites all relevant organs and specialized agencies of the United Nations system and other concerned organizations, within their mandates, to elaborate and submit, as set out in the annex below, review reports and proposals, which fully integrate a gender perspective, for further action and initiatives, taking into account national reports submitted by Governments;

We believe that the General Assembly has an essential role to play in the conservation and sustainable use of marine resources, in particular in terms of guiding, monitoring and coordinating the programmes set up by the specialized organs and agencies.
