During the period under review, the Special Rapporteur transmitted urgent appeals on behalf of persons, institutions or organizations carrying out peaceful activities in defence of human rights and fundamental freedoms, requesting the Governments concerned to take the necessary measures to protect these persons' right to life.

In addition, the Commission requested the Special Rapporteur to pay special attention to extrajudicial, summary or arbitrary executions where the victims are individuals who are carrying out peaceful activities in defence of human rights and fundamental freedoms.
