Its purpose was to present a summary of a report titled " Consideration of the Technology and Economic Assessment Panel and Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change on Climate Change assessment report as it relates to actions to address ozone depletion " and to produce a list of practical measures relating to ozone depletion that follow from the report.

In that regard, the Openended Working Group agreed to request the Technology and Economic Assessment Panel and IPCC to provide by 31 October a supplementary report that elaborated clearly the ozone depletion implications of information already in the special report by presenting it in terms of ODP and costs per ODP tonne.

In accordance with decision XVII/19, the Secretariat held a one-day expert group meeting immediately following the twenty-sixth meeting of the Open-ended Working Group with the goal of producing a list of the practical measures related to ozone depletion that arose from the Technology and Economic Assessment Panel/Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change special report and the Technology and Economic Assessment Panel's supplementary report.

In the decision, the experts at the workshop were requested to produce a list of practical measures relating to ozone depletion that arise from the reports, indicating their associated ozonedepleting substance cost-effectiveness and taking into account the full costs of such measures, and also to include information on other environmental benefits, including those relating to climate change, that would result from those measures.
2 - وطُلِبَ في المقرر من الخبراء في حلقة العمل الخروج بقائمة بالتدابير العملية المتصلة باستنفاد الأوزون التي تنشأ عن التقارير مع الإشارة إلى فعالية تكلفة المواد المستنفدة للأوزون المقترنة بها والأخذ في الاعتبار التكاليف الكاملة لهذه التدابير، وكذلك تضمين معلومات عن الفوائد البيئية الأخرى بما في ذلك تلك المتصلة بتغير المناخ التي قد تنجم عن هذه التدابير.

Pursuant to decision XVII/19, the Secretariat sponsored a workshop in July 2006 to prepare a list of practical measures related to ozone depletion that arose from the special report by the Technology and Economic Assessment Panel and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change on safeguarding the ozone layer and the global climate system and the supplement thereto by the Technology and Economic Assessment Panel.

He then discussed methods and metrics, stressing that the ultimate choice of technologies to phase out HCFCs would be based on ozone depletion and on climate, health, safety, affordability and availability considerations (as mentioned in decision XIX/6), and that the lowest-GWP substance might not always be the best choice because the energy used in manufacturing and during operation was also important.
