VI. Working Group of Artisanal Alluvial Producers
سادسا - الفريق العامل المعني بالإنتاج الحرفي للماس الغريني

The Diamond Development Initiative continued efforts to further discussions on mechanization in the Working Group on Artisanal and Alluvial Production.
كما واصلت مبادرة تطوير قطاع الماس بذل الجهود من أجل مواصلة المناقشات المتعلقة بالميكنة، وذلك في إطار الفريق العامل المعني بالإنتاج الحرفي للماس الغريني.

5. The KPCS has six standing bodies viz. Participation Committee (PC), Working Group on Monitoring (WGM), Working Group on Statistics (WGS), Working Group on Diamond Experts (WGDE), Working Group on Artisanal and Alluvial Production (WGAAP) and Committee on Rules and Procedures (CRP).

20. The plenary noted discussions by the Working Group on Artisanal and Alluvial Production on the link between diamonds and development.

The challenges faced by the Working Group stand at the core of the KP as Artisanal and alluvial diamond mining account for a significant proportion of the international diamond production, while the livelihood of millions of miners and diggers depends on such labour.

The plenary took note of the discussions in the Working Group on Artisanal and Alluvial Production on fraud and smuggling diamonds; mechanization of Artisanal diamond exploration; illegal immigration driven by the Artisanal diamond activity; and the implications for the relationship between the participants.

36. As a follow-up to the seminar on enforcement held in Israel, the Working Group on Artisanal and Alluvial Production recommended the organizing of an additional seminar at the subregional level.

37. The plenary took note that members of the Working Group on Artisanal and Alluvial Production were concerned about the need to ensure that the production of diamonds meets the expectation of consumers for ethical products in the context of protecting the reputation and value of diamonds.

The Working Group on Artisanal Alluvial Production is promoting more effective local controls over the production and trade of alluvial diamonds so as to ensure that only diamonds that are produced and sold in conformity with national legislation and the standards of the Certification Scheme are exported.
