1. The Subcommission on Prevention of Discrimination and Protection of Minorities, at its forty-fourth session in 1992, in its decision 1992/104 of 14 August 1992, decided to consider under this item at its forty-sixth session the possibility of elaborating new human rights standards relating to scientific developments which can affect the mental condition or the genetic structure of human beings.
١- قررت اللجنة الفرعية لمنع التمييز وحماية اﻷقليات، في دورتها الرابعة واﻷربعين المعقودة في عام ٢٩٩١ وبموجب مقررها ٢٩٩١/٤٠١ المؤرخ في ٤١ آب/أغسطس ٢٩٩١، أن تنظر، في دورتها السادسة واﻷربعين، وفي إطار هذا البند، في إمكانية وضع معايير جديدة لحقوق اﻹنسان تتعلق بالتطورات العلمية التي يمكن أن تؤثر في الحالة العقلية أو في الهيكل الوراثي للكائنات البشرية.

15. In its resolution 1999/61, the Economic and Social Council urged the secretariat of the Commission, in collaboration with other United Nations bodies, to establish an electronic network linking information on their activities in science and technology for development and to build awareness of scientific developments that are particularly important for fostering economic and social development.
15- حث المجلس الاقتصادي والاجتماعي أمانة اللجنة على القيام، بالتعاون مع هيئات الأمم المتحدة الأخرى، بإنشـاء شبكة إلكترونية لنقل المعلومات المتعلقة بأنشطتها في مجال تسـخير العلم والتكنولوجيا لأغراض التنمية وزيادة الوعي بالتطورات العلمية ذات الأهمية الخاصة بالنسبة لتعزيز التنمية الاقتصادية والاجتماعية.

On the recurrent issue of coordination of science and technology for development in the United Nations system, the secretariat was urged, in collaboration with other United Nations bodies, to continue efforts to establish an electronic network linking information on their activities in science and technology for development and to build awareness of scientific developments that are particularly important for fostering economic development.
11- وبصدد الموضوع المتكرر وهو تنسيق الأعمال المتعلقة بتسخير العلم والتكنولوجيا لأغراض التنمية في منظومة الأمم المتحدة جرى حث الأمانة على مواصلة جهودها بالتعاون مع هيئات الأمم المتحدة الأخرى لإنشاء شبكة إلكترونية لنقل المعلومات المتعلقة بأنشطتها في مجال تسخير العلم والتكنولوجيا لأغراض التنمية والتوعية بالتطورات العلمية ذات الأهمية الخاصة لتعزيز التنمية الاقتصادية والاجتماعية.

The Economic and Social Council, in resolution 1999/61, requested the secretariat of the Commission to continue efforts, in collaboration with other United Nations bodies, to establish an electronic network linking information on their activities in science and technology for development and to build awareness of scientific developments that are particularly important for fostering economic and social development.

In particular, the United States reported on two initiatives aimed at enhancing journalists' knowledge of climate change issues: (i) co-sponsoring, with NASA, workshops on global climate change and providing science reporters with basic tutorials, information on scientific advances, etc., and (ii) the development of a series of reporters' guides focusing on climate change issues.
