The Working Group on the issue of discrimination against women in law and in practice was established by the Human Rights Council in its resolution 15/23, in which the Council acknowledged that women everywhere are still subject to significant disadvantage as the result of discriminatory laws and practices, and that de jure and de facto equality has not been achieved in any country in the world.

In the seventh preambular paragraph, the phrase " in which the Council established a working group of independent experts on the issue of discrimination against women in law and practice " should be deleted.

Mr. Heaton (Canada) said that his delegation welcomed the decisions taken at the fifteenth session of the Human Rights Council to establish two new special procedures mandates, namely the Special Rapporteur on the right to freedom of association and peaceful assembly and a working group on the issue of discrimination against women in law and in practice.

The Special Rapporteur encourages the Working Group on the issue of discrimination against women in law and practice to document best practices with respect to women and the right to adequate housing, within the scope of its mandate to promote and exchange views on best practices related to the elimination of laws that discriminate against women or are discriminatory to women in terms of implementation or impact.

Since 2008, Morocco has received visits from three special procedures mandate holders: the Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances, which visited Morocco from 22 to 25 June 2009 and held a session there from 26 to 28 June 2009; the independent expert in the field of cultural rights (5 to 16 September 2011); and the working group on the issue of discrimination against women in law and in practice (13 to 20 February 2012).

The Committee also requested the Government to provide information on the results achieved by previous and present projects carried out with respect to discrimination against women in the labour market and facilitating their access to a wider range of training courses and occupations.
