The present report reviews progress made in the implementation of the objectives set out in chapter 2 of Agenda 21 (International cooperation to accelerate sustainable development in developing countries and related domestic policies),1 since the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) in June 1992.2 Progress in the various programme areas of chapter II of Agenda 21 has not been even.

٣٣ - وفيما يتعلق بالمسائل الناشئة على الصعيدين العالمي واﻹقليمي والتي تتصل بالتعاون التقني بخصوص مجالات الاحصاءات الجديدة والعاجلة، ينبغي لشعبة الاحصاءات والاسقاطات أن تضطلع في نهاية المطاف بالعمل المتعلق بالمعلومات اللازمة لاتخاذ القرارات، لتقديم الدعم بوجه خاص الى التعاون الدولي الذي يرمي إلى التعجيل بالتنمية المستدامة في البلدان النامية والسياسات المحلية ذات الصلة.
