The Special Adviser on Gender Issues and Advancement of Women addressed the Commission on Human Rights at its fifty-fifth session during its consideration of item 12 (Integration of the human rights of women and the gender perspective).

In addition, the Office of Human Resources Management is working with the Office of the Special Adviser to the Secretary-General on Gender Issues and Advancement of Women to develop revised gender balance targets for the 2009-2010 human resources action plans.

At the 11th meeting, on 15 October, introductory statements were made by the Special Adviser on Gender Issues and Advancement of Women, the Director of the Division for the Advancement of Women of the Department of Economic and Social Affairs and the Executive Director of the United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM) (see A/C.3/58/SR.11).

While much of this work and in-session servicing, is assigned to the Women's Rights Unit, staff from other areas of the Division and from the Office of the Special Adviser on Gender Issues and Advancement of Women routinely contribute to in-session servicing, especially in the preparation of summaries of the introduction by the State party and in extending support to experts in the preparation of concluding comments.

At the same meeting, the Special Adviser on Gender Issues and Advancement of Women, the Director of the Division for the Advancement of Women and the Executive Director of UNIFEM engaged in a dialogue with the Committee in which the representatives of Italy, Singapore, Canada, the Syrian Arab Republic, Cuba, Afghanistan, Peru, Croatia and Spain and the observer for Palestine took part (see A/C.3/58/SR.11).
