It was noted that the latter approach was followed in the context of the draft Convention on International Interests in Mobile Equipment currently being prepared by the International Institute for the Unification of Private Law (“UNIDROIT”).

Note: Although they are not United Nations agencies, it may be noted that IATA cooperates with the World Tourism Organization on aviation and the General Agreement on Trade in Services and with the International Institute for the Unification of Private Law (UNIDROIT) on the proposed UNIDROIT Convention on International Interests in Mobile Equipment and Aircraft Equipment Protocol.

32. Regarding the Legal Subcommittee, the United States believed that the preliminary draft protocol to the Convention on International Interests in Mobile Equipment would facilitate the commercial financing that was key to the success of private space activities.

At the close of the discussion of draft article 4, the Working Group noted that the draft Convention on International Interests in Mobile Equipment being prepared by UNIDROIT was intended to address the assignment of receivables arising from the lease of aircraft, a matter that was intended to be covered by the draft Convention.
