1. The ad hoc expert group shall provide scientific and technical advice to the Forum for its work on finance and transfer of environmentally sound technologies.

1. At its third session, the United Nations Forum on Forests agreed on the establishment of an Ad Hoc Expert Group on the finance and transfer of Environmentally Sound Technologies, and to the convening of a meeting of the Expert Group.
1 - اتفق منتدى الأمم المتحدة المعني بالغابات، في دورته الثالثة، على إنشاء فريق خبراء مخصص يعنى بتمويل ونقل التكنولوجيات السليمة بيئيا، وعلى عقد اجتماع لذلك الفريق.

2. Decides to give further consideration in its programme of work to the issues of finance and transfer of environmentally sound technologies, including the recommendations of the Expert Group.

The SBSTA, at its seventh session, took note of the need for better information with respect to finance and transfer of technology and agreed to consider at its ninth session what, if any, additions and/or amendments to the revised guidelines for the preparation of national communications by Annex II Parties would be required.

The reports of the first two Expert Groups of the Forum, namely on approaches and mechanisms for monitoring, assessment and reporting (E/CN.18/2004/2) and on finance and transfer of environmentally sound technologies (E/CN.18/2004/5) were presented to the Forum at its fourth session, held at Geneva from 3 to 14 May 2004.

C. The importance of secure property and land tenure rights 17. Paragraph 40 of the note by the Secretariat (E/CN.18/AC.2/2003/2), providing background information to assist the Ad Hoc Expert Group on the finance and transfer of Environmentally Sound Technologies, states that " Property rights are often the first step towards sustainable resource use. "

III. Catalysts in the implementation of the proposals for action

31. The issue of financing sustainable forest management has been extensively addressed by the Forum and its ad hoc expert group on financing and transfer of environmentally sound technologies.
