The increased availability on the web site of new and detailed reports on the illicit opium economy, the increasing global problem of amphetamine-type stimulants and the supply reduction aspects of the illicit drug phenomenon, including alternative development, assisted Member States in identifying priorities in drug control measures.

He stated that his Government had paid particular attention to implementing supply reduction and sustainable alternative development programmes and activities and that the sharing of best practices and successful measures in those areas among countries was important.

The initiatives of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime in respect of supply reduction encompass a wide range of measures. These include the provision of advice and assistance and the implementation of projects in the areas of alternative development, illicit crop monitoring, law enforcement cooperation, scientific support, countering money-laundering and precursor control.

It was noted that the Commission would conduct a high-level review of the implementation by member States of the Plan of Action at its fifty-seventh session, in 2014, and that the meetings of the Subcommission could contribute to that review by transmitting their input on the implementation of the Plan of Action, in particular of part II, on supply reduction and related measures.

At the Twenty-second Meeting of HONLEA, Latin America and the Caribbean, attention was drawn to part II of the Political Declaration and its Plan of Action, particularly the section on supply reduction.

(b) The increased availability to Member States, national and international organizations and other institutions of reliable and timely guidance, data, information and analyses relating to the supply reduction aspects of the illicit drug phenomenon, including alternative development, and of countermeasures and strategies for their application;
