65. The entitlement of any person to defend a charge either in person or through an advocate is recognized in Zambia.
٥٦- ويعترف في زامبيا بحق كل شخص يتهم في أن يدافع عن نفسه سواء بشخصه أو بواسطة محام.

41. According to the wording of article 14(3)(d) of the Covenant, every person has the right to " defend himself in person or through legal assistance of his own choosing " .

512. Article 14, paragraph 3 (d), provides that an accused has the right to defend himself in person or through legal counsel of his own choosing.

31. Mr. KRETZMER noted that article 14 (3) (d) provided that everyone charged with a criminal offence was entitled to be tried in his presence, and to defend himself in person or through legal assistance of his own choosing.

It is in this respect that the requisite " minimum guarantees " to have adequate time and facilities for the preparation of his defence and to communicate with counsel of his own choosing, or to be tried in his presence, and to defend himself in person or through legal assistance of his own choosing, were not respected.

7.3 The Committee notes that article 14, paragraph 3 (d), of the Covenant provides that everyone accused of a criminal charge shall be entitled " to defend himself in person or through legal assistance of his own choosing " .

It also refers to article 14, paragraph 3 (c), which specifies that everyone shall be entitled " to be tried without undue delay " , and paragraph 3 (d), which sets forth that everyone has the right " to defend himself in person or through legal assistance " .

Everyone is guaranteed the right to defence, including in particular: to be informed promptly, in a language which he understands of the charge against him; to have adequate time for the preparation of defence and to defend himself in person or through legal assistance of his own choosing (art. 37).
