The SBI, at its eighteenth session, concluded that further discussion was needed to address modalities relating to the implementation of national adaptation programmes of action (NAPAs) and decided to consider additional guidance for the operation of the LDC Fund at its nineteenth session, with a view to recommending a decision for adoption by the COP at its ninth session.

The SBI, at its seventh session, decided to “continue its deliberations on a process for considering initial national communications from non-Annex I Parties with a view to recommending a decision to the Conference of the Parties at its fourth session” (see FCCC/SBI/1997/21, para. 13 (a)).

Background: The Conference of the Parties (COP), by its decision 34/CP.7, deferred consideration of the guidelines for reporting of greenhouse gas inventories from Parties included in Annex I to the Convention (Annex I Parties) until the sixteenth session of the SBSTA with a view to recommending a decision to the COP for adoption at its eighth session.
9- الخلفية: قرر مؤتمر الأطراف بموجب مقرره 34/م أ-7 تأجيل النظر في المبادئ التوجيهية المتعلقة بالإبلاغ عن قوائم جرد غازات الدفيئة المقدمة من الأطراف المدرجة في المرفق الأول للاتفاقية (الأطراف في المرفق الأول) حتى الدورة السادسة عشرة للجنة الفرعية للمشورة العلمية والتكنولوجية بغية التوصية بمقرر كي يعتمده مؤتمر الأطراف في دورته الثامنة.

The COP requested the SBSTA, at its sixteenth session, to consider how this information should be presented and evaluated taking into account document FCCC/CP/2001/MISC.2 and other relevant submissions by Parties, with a view to recommending a decision on this matter for adoption by the COP at its eighth session.
