Within the same context the Pacific Islands Forum countries represented in New York reaffirm their commitment to play a supportive role in the United Nations decolonization programmes in respect of the remaining non-self-governing territories in the Pacific.

May I also take this opportunity, on behalf of the South Pacific Forum countries, to express our deepest sympathy to the family of the late Prime Minister Rabin and the people of Israel for the most horrific act of terrorism that has taken the life of a leader who championed the cause of peace for his people, the Palestinians and the world.

I would also like to bring a further development to the attention of the Conference. As a result of consultations between Heads of Government of South Pacific Forum countries, the Forum has issued a statement through the Prime Minister of Australia as the current Chair of the Forum which I would like to read to the Conference:
وأود كذلك أن ألفت انتباه المؤتمر إلى تطور آخر، فنتيجة للمشاورات بين رؤساء حكومات بلدان محفل جنوب المحيط الهادئ أصدر المحفل بياناً على لسان رئيس وزراء استراليا باعتباره الرئيس الحالي للمحفل أود أن أقرأه أمام المؤتمر.
