There is a need to reinforce political commitment with regard to existing international agreements and conventions such as the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, which should include necessary actions for the protection and preservation of rare and fragile ecosystems, as well as the habitat of depleted, threatened or endangered species and other forms of marine life, including coral reefs.
