" الهدف من هذه الاتفاقية هو تشجيع المشاركة في المسؤولية وفي الجهود التعاونية فيما بين الأطراف في الاتجار الدولي بمواد كيميائية خطرة معينة بغية حماية صحة البشر والبيئة من الأضرار المحتملة والمساهمة في استخدامها استخداماً " سليماً بيئياً " .

In other words, while the Convention sets out its ultimate objective to protect human health and the environment from potential harm of certain hazardous chemicals and to contribute to their environmentally sound use, it focuses on " international trade of certain hazardous chemicals " and it is designed " to promote shared responsibility and cooperative efforts among Parties " thereon.
3 - وبعبارة، أخرى فإنه في الوقت الذي تحدد فيه الاتفاقية هدفاً نهائياً وهو حماية صحة البشر والبيئة من الأضرار المحتملة الناشئة عن مواد كيميائية معينة خطرة، وتساهم في استخدامها بطريقة سليمة بيئياً، فإنها تركز على الإتجار الدولي بمواد كيميائية خطرة معينة " فإنها تهدف إلى تشجيع المشاركة في المسؤولية وفي الجهود التعاونية فيما بين الأطراف " بشأنها.
