وتناولت الأمينة التنفيذية للجنة الاقتصادية والاجتماعية لغربي آسيا الكلمة فقالت إن للتكنولوجيا دوراً حاسماً في الانتقال إلى أنماط التنمية المستدامة في المنطقة، وأشارت إلى الأهمية التي حظي بها العلم والتكنولوجيا في قرارات الأمم المتحدة كلها تقريبا التي اتخذتها في الآونة الأخيرة بشأن القضايا الاقتصادية والاجتماعية والبيئية.
