41. The General Assembly had expressed concern that some field staff were not covered by the malicious acts insurance policy.

The purpose of the present bulletin is to formally advise staff members of the persons to whom the United Nations shall pay the proceeds of the malicious acts insurance policy to compensate for damages suffered by staff members as a result of malicious acts at designated hazardous duty stations.

The Advisory Committee on Administrative and Budgetary Questions has considered the Secretary-General's report on a strengthened and unified security management system for the United Nations (A/60/424) and his report on the coverage of staff by the malicious acts insurance policy and on security spending by organizations of the United Nations system (A/60/317 and Corr.1).

The present report is submitted pursuant to the request of the General Assembly, in paragraphs 43 and 55 of section XI, entitled " Strengthened and unified security management system for the United Nations " , of resolution 59/276, on the coverage of staff of the United Nations system by the malicious acts insurance policy and on a clearer presentation of the security spending by each of the organizations of the United Nations system.

Total a The 2008-2009 cost-shared budget is calculated using the total budget for jointly financed activities, as listed in resolution 62/238 ($200,126,100 after recosting), less the portion covering the United Nations Office at Vienna ($27,708,400), which is only shared between the organizations at the United Nations Office at Vienna, less the costs of the malicious acts insurance policy ($12,947,100).
