In that connection, he said that that view was based on a widespread but indefensible interpretation. Under the provisions of article 3 of the Covenant and bearing in mind the Committee's General Comment No. 28, in particular its paragraph 24, which stated that polygamy violated the dignity of women, the practice should be completely eliminated by law.
