Bearing in mind that certain world events have called into question the authority of the United Nations, it is important for the Assembly to reassert its role as the pre-eminent world forum and to ensure that the Charter is respected as a world constitution.
وأخذا في الاعتبار أن بعض الأحداث العالمية شككت في سلطة الأمم المتحدة، من المهم بالنسبة للجمعية أن تعيد تأكيد دورها كمنتدى عالمي له المكانة العليا وأن تكفل التقيد بالميثاق باعتباره دستور العالم.

13 - وإذا ما أرادت الأمم المتحدة أن تعيد تأكيد دورها في توجيه التعاون العالمي في المسائل الاقتصادية والاجتماعية والبيئية،فإنه يلزم بذل مزيد من الجهود لكي تصبح نتائج عملها أكثر وضوحاً وأكثر أهمية.
