Moreover, the General Assembly expressed deep concern about the pervasiveness of violence against women and girls, reiterating the need to further intensify efforts to prevent and eliminate all forms of violence against women and girls, and recognizing that violence against women and girls is one of the obstacles to the achievement of the objectives of equality, development and peace.

21. While welcoming the enactment of the 2006 Sexual Offences Act, the Committee reiterates its concern at the high prevalence of violence against women and girls and widespread incidents of sexual violence, including rape, in both the private and public spheres.
