The Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women pays particular attention to measures taken by Governments to eliminate prejudices and discriminatory practices that rooted in the idea of the inferiority or superiority of either of the sexes or in stereotyped roles for men and women.

Article 5 (a) of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women, in particular, notes the need for appropriate measures to modify the social and cultural patterns of conduct of men and women, with a view to eliminating prejudices and practices which are based on the inferiority or superiority of either of the sexes or on stereotyped roles for men and women.

The Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women, in article 5 (a), requires States parties to modify social and cultural patterns of men and women to eliminate practices based on the idea of sex role stereotyping or the inferiority or superiority of either of the sexes.
