With regard to the recommendations contained in paragraph 114 of the report of the Special Committee concerning the composition of its Bureau and the reorganization of its working methods, his delegation hoped that the Bureau and the Secretariat would hold consultations with all interested parties and submit their findings to the Special Committee for its consideration.

By endorsing the report of the Special Committee on Peacekeeping Operations, the General Assembly would be taking a first step towards seeking justice and preventing such unacceptable conduct in the future.

The Chairman drew attention to the report of the Special Committee on Peacekeeping Operations contained in document A/54/87 and the report of the Secretary-General on the enhance- ment of African peacekeeping capacity contained in document A/54/63-S/1999/171, as well as to the draft resolution contained in document A/C.4/54/L.2*.

The report issued under item 18, entitled “Implementation of the Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples”, appears in document A/54/584, which contains the report of the Special Committee on the Situation with regard to the Implementation of the Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples relating to specific Territories not covered by other agenda items.

The Fourth Committee considered the report of the Special Committee concerning the protection and the promotion of the rights of the Palestinian people and other Arab inhabitants of the occupied territories, published under the symbol A/61/500, as well as other reports of the Secretary-General issued under this item.
