B. Promoting the use of Global Navigation Satellite System Technologies as tools for scientific applications

With regard to the management of natural resources and natural disasters, and the protection of the environment, the participants agreed that the proposed regional network should aim to promote and disseminate information on the use of GNSS technology and facilitate management and decision-making.

However, several nations have the capacity to provide telehealth services using a landscape epidemiology approach employing GNSS technologies.

The panel also aimed to examine opportunities for functional partnerships and cooperation, as well as the possible need for new frameworks for cooperation that could be established through voluntary action by Governments, international organizations, non-governmental organizations and other relevant stakeholders in the use of GNSS technologies.

During the second session, the three groups presented the results of their discussions and together defined a regional strategy for forming partnerships and for increasing the use of GNSS technologies in the region.

The subgroups focused on ways and means of strengthening the use of GNSS technologies in Asia and discussed ongoing and planned initiatives and the actions that should be carried out collaboratively for the establishment of a global information exchange network on the applications of GNSS among national and regional institutions.
وركّز الفريقان الفرعيان على سبل ووسائل تعزيز استعمال تكنولوجيات النظم العالمية لسواتل الملاحة في آسيا، وناقشا المبادرات القائمة والمخطط للقيام بها والإجراءات التي ينبغي اتخاذها على أساس تعاوني مشترك من أجل إنشاء شبكة عالمية لتبادل المعلومات بشأن تطبيقات تلك النظم بين المؤسسات الوطنية والإقليمية.

The working group focused on ways and means of strengthening the use of GNSS technologies in the region and discussed ongoing and planned initiatives and actions that should be carried out collaboratively for the establishment of a global information exchange network on GNSS applications among national and regional institutions.
40- وركَّز الفريق العامل على سبل ووسائل تعزيز استعمال تكنولوجيات النظم العالمية لسواتل الملاحة في المنطقة وناقش المبادرات القائمة والمخطط للقيام بها والإجراءات التي ينبغي اتخاذها على أساس تعاوني من أجل إنشاء شبكة عالمية لتبادل المعلومات بشأن تطبيقات تلك النظم بين المؤسسات الوطنية والإقليمية.

14. The first presentation session provided an overview of the GNSS technologies currently being used in agriculture and the management of natural resources, telemedicine and landscape epidemiology, and transportation.
14- وجرى في جلسة العروض الأولى تقديم لمحة عامة عن تكنولوجيات النظم العالمية لسواتل الملاحة المستخدمة حاليا في الزراعة وإدارة الموارد الطبيعية، والتطبيب عن بعد وإيكولوجيا الانتشار الوبائي، والنقل.

Social and economic development in the countries of the region could be enhanced by the improvement of university educators' and scientists' skills and knowledge through rigorous theory, research, field exercises and pilot projects in GNSS technologies.
فالتنمية الاجتماعية والاقتصادية في بلدان المنطقة يمكن أن تتعزَّز بتحسين مهارات المدرّسين الجامعيين والعلماء ومعارفهم، وذلك بوضع نظريات دقيقة وإجراء بحوث وتمارين ميدانية وتنفيذ مشاريع تجريبية في مجال تكنولوجيات النظم العالمية لسواتل الملاحة.

25. Participants identified the following four projects that would systematize best practices (knowledge- and information-sharing), enabling GNSS technologies to be transferred between countries throughout the region.
25- وحدّد المشاركون المشاريع الأربعة التالية التي من شأنها أن تنظّم أفضل الممارسات (تقاسم المعارف والمعلومات)، مما يتيح نقل تكنولوجيات النظم العالمية لسواتل الملاحة فيما بين بلدان المنطقة بأسرها.

During the five days of the Workshop, invited speakers from both developing and industrialized countries delivered a total of 36 presentations, which focused on national, regional and international projects and initiatives involving the use of GNSS technologies.
13- وخلال الأيام الخمسة التي انعقدت فيها حلقة العمل، قدّم متكلمون مدعوّون من البلدان النامية والصناعية على حد سواء ما مجموعه 36 عرضا إيضاحيا ركّزت على المشاريع والمبادرات الوطنية والإقليمية والدولية التي تشمل استخدام تكنولوجيات النظم العالمية لسواتل الملاحة.

With regard to the management of natural resources and natural disasters and the protection of the environment, the participants agreed that the objective of the proposed regional network should be to promote and disseminate information on the use of GNSS technologies and to improve and facilitate management and decision-making.
22- أما فيما يخص إدارة الموارد الطبيعية والكوارث الطبيعية وحماية البيئة، فقد اتفق المشاركون على أن يكون هدف الشبكة الإقليمية المقترح إنشاؤها هو ترويج معلومات ونشرها بشأن استعمال تكنولوجيات النظم العالمية لسواتل الملاحة وتحسين الإدارة وعملية اتخاذ القرارات وتيسيرهما.

Pursuant to the ICG workplan, the Office for Outer Space Affairs, as the Executive Secretariat of the Committee, also concentrated on promoting the use of GNSS technologies as tools for scientific applications, including space weather effects on GNSS.
