During the reporting period, the importance of UNCTAD's work in this area was recognized by the Government of the Netherlands, which has made a significant financial contribution to the implementation of UNCTAD recommendations for improving governance in investment promotion and facilitation in Ethiopia.

To benefit effectively from the opening of markets, many developing countries still had to achieve higher levels of productivity, diversification and competitiveness, and UNCTAD recommendations should reflect those objectives.

In the case of Myanmar, the Government adopted the UNCTAD recommendations and in April 2013 incorporated the recommended cost - benefit methodology in the investor application process and in its internal procedures.
