١ - تمارس الدولة الساحلية على الجرف القاري حقوقا سيادية ﻷغراض استكشافه واستغلال موارده الطبيعية.

In the zone, Spain exercises sovereign rights for the conservation, management and control of fishing activities, without prejudice to the measures adopted or to be adopted by the European Union as regards the protection and conservation of living marine resources.
وفي هذه المنطقة، تمارس اسبانيا حقوقا سيادية لحفظ وإدارة ومراقبة أنشطة صيد اﻷسماك، دون اﻹخلال بالتدابير التي اعتمدها أو سيعتمدها الاتحاد اﻷوروبي بشأن حماية وحفظ الموارد البحرية الحية.

Article 56, paragraph 1, of the Convention provides that coastal States have sovereign rights for the purpose of exploring and exploiting, conserving and managing the natural resources within their respective zones of national jurisdiction.

States are also required to take all measures necessary to ensure that activities under their jurisdiction or control do not cause damage by pollution to other States and their environment, and that pollution arising from incidents or activities under their jurisdiction or control does not spread beyond the areas where they exercise sovereign rights.

Action in respect of damage claimed could be brought either in the courts of the country in which the harm suffered or in the courts of the country which exercises exclusive sovereign rights over the maritime area in which the installation is situated (article 11).

The Republic of Cyprus considers that, with this action, Turkey violates customary international law as expressed in the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea and in particular in articles 56 and 77, which clearly grant to the Republic of Cyprus exclusive sovereign rights for the purpose of exploring and exploiting natural resources of the seabed and subsoil of its exclusive economic zone and continental shelf respectively.
وتعتبر جمهوريةُ قبرص أن تركيا بعملها هذا تنتهك القانونَ الدولي العرفي بأحكامه الواردة في اتفاقية الأمم المتحدة لقانون البحار، وخاصة في المادتين 56 و 77 اللتين تكفلان لجمهورية قبرص بوضوح حقوقا سيادية خالصة لغرض استكشاف واستغلال الموارد الطبيعية في قاع البحر وباطن أرضه وذلك في منطقتها الاقتصادية الخالصة وجرفها القاري على التوالي.

165. Peru " requests the Court to determine the course of the boundary between the maritime zones of the two States in accordance with international law ... and to adjudge and declare that Peru possesses exclusive sovereign rights in the maritime area situated within the limit of 200 nautical miles from its coast but outside Chile's exclusive economic zone or continental shelf " .

2. Obligation of States, including flag States, to take all measures necessary to ensure that activities under their jurisdiction or control are so conducted as not to cause damage by pollution to other States and their environment, and that pollution arising from incidents or activities under their jurisdiction or control does not spread beyond the areas where they exercise sovereign rights in accordance with this Convention.
2 - تلتزم الدول، بما فيها دول العلم، باتخاذ جميع ما يلزم من التدابير لتضمن أن تجرى الأنشطة الواقعة تحت ولايتها أو رقابتها بحيث لا تؤدي إلى إلحاق ضرر عن طريق التلوث بدول أخرى وبيئتها، وأن لا ينتشر التلوث الناشئ عن أحداث أو أنشطة تقع تحت ولايتها أو رقابتها إلى خارج المناطق التي تمارس فيها حقوقا سيادية وفقا لهذه الاتفاقية.
