Colombia urges the Government of Guatemala to continue renewing its commitment to the peace programme and urges the United Nations to renew MINUGUA's mandate and to continue its support of the peace-building process in that country.

١٦- تحث أيضا حكومة غواتيمالا على النظر في التصديق، في أقرب وقت ممكن، على الصكوك الدولية في مجال حقوق اﻹنسان التي لم تصبح طرفا فيها بعد، ولا سيما الاتفاقية رقم ١٦٩ لمنظمة العمل الدولية بشأن الشعوب اﻷصلية والقبلية في البلدان المستقلة؛

He also reported on technical assistance programmes of the International Labour Organisation, which was currently providing assistance in drafting legislation for the indigenous peoples in the Russian Federation, and was helping the Government of Guatemala to devise a policy and institutional framework to solve the problems faced by the indigenous peoples in that country. 6. Exhorts the Government of Guatemala to continue to adopt and apply the necessary legal and political measures to strengthen the independence of the judiciary and respect for its decisions;

Encourages the Government of Guatemala to expedite and intensify the provision of assistance and services to the most vulnerable sectors of the population, in conformity with the content and spirit of the peace agreements, particularly the Agreement on Social and Economic Aspects and the Agrarian Situation;

In 1987, the Commission on Human Rights decided to terminate the mandate of the Special Representative and requested the Secretary—General to appoint an expert with a view to assisting the Government of Guatemala in taking the necessary action for the further restoration of human rights (resolution 1987/530).
