1. Since I reported to the General Assembly at its fiftieth session in 1995 (A/50/436), I have convened two rounds of talks between the Governments of Indonesia and Portugal in the framework of my continuing good offices on the question of East Timor.
١ - منذ تقريري الذي قدمته إلى الجمعية العامة خلال دورتها الخمسين في عام ١٩٩٥ (A/50/436)، عقدت جولتين من المحادثات بين حكومتي إندونيسيا والبرتغال في إطار استمرار المساعي الحميدة التي أبذلها بشأن مسألة تيمور الشرقية.

1. In the annex to his report to the General Assembly and the Security Council on the question of East Timor (A/53/951–S/1999/513), the Secretary-General transmitted the overall Agreement between the Governments of Indonesia and Portugal, signed on 5 May 1999.
١ - أحال اﻷمين العام، في المرفق لتقريــره إلى الجمعيــة العامة ومجلس اﻷمــن بشأن مسألة تيمور الشرقيــة )A/53/951-S/1999/513(، الاتفاق العام المبرم بين حكومتي إندونيسيا والبرتغال والموقع في ٥ أيار/ مايو ١٩٩٩.

As indicated in paragraph 4 of the report, the Security Council, in its resolution 1236 (1999) of 7 May 1999, welcomed the intention of the Secretary-General to establish as soon as practicable a United Nations presence in East Timor, with a view to assisting in the implementation of the Agreements between the Governments of Indonesia and Portugal, signed on 5 May 1999.

Recalling further the Agreement of 5 May 1999 between the Governments of Indonesia and Portugal and the Secretary-General on the question of East Timor regarding the modalities for the popular consultation of the East Timorese, and taking note of its outcome and the process of transition, under the authority of the United Nations, towards independence,
