It is also worth mentioning that the Convention for the Protection and Development of the Marine Environment of the Wider Caribbean Region fulfils similar functions on the other side of the Pacific. In this way, the coasts of the American continent are now largely encompassed by conventions concluded within the framework of the UNEP regional seas programme.
ومن الجدير بالذكر أيضا أن اتفاق حماية وتنمية البيئة البحرية لمنطقة البحر الكاريبي الكبرى تشمل مهام مماثلة على الجانب الآخر من المحيط الهادئ، ومن ثم فإن سواحل القارة الأمريكية قد أصبحت، في الجزء الأكبر منها، مطوقة باتفاقات مبرمة في إطار برنامج البحار الإقليمية التابع لبرنامج الأمم المتحدة للبيئة.

Likewise, our country from the very outset took part in the negotiations on the Convention for the Protection and Development of the Marine Environment of the Wider Caribbean Region and its Protocol concerning Protected Areas and Wildlife, as well as the Convention on Biological Diversity, which we consider to be a framework instrument for the regulation of conservation and use of biological diversity in all spheres.
