In his statement, Mr. Dulić drew attention to the goal set out in the Plan of Implementation of the World Summit on Sustainable Development that, by 2020, chemicals would be used and produced in ways that would lead to the minimization of significant adverse effects on human health and the environment.

The Plan of Implementation, of the World Summit on Sustainable Development (Johannesburg Plan of Implementation), noted that sustainable forest management is a critical means to eradicate poverty, significantly reduce deforestation, halt the loss of forest biodiversity and land and resource degradation and improve food security and access to safe drinking water and affordable energy.
