In response to a letter from the Government of Saudi Arabia, the first mandate holder, Angelo Vidal d'Almeida Ribeiro, made the following observations:

The year 1990 accounted for the largest number of communications (46) from Special Rapporteur d'Almeida Ribeiro.

He very much values the wealth of experience collected during the last 24 years by the three previous mandate holders: Asma Jahangir, Abdelfattah Amor and Angelo Vidal d'Almeida Ribeiro.

53. The question about family violence had already been answered by Mr. d'Almeida.

Alarmed that serious instances, including acts of violence, of intolerance and discrimination on the grounds of religion or belief occur in many parts of the world, as evidenced in the report of the former Special Rapporteur of the Commission on Human Rights, Mr. Angelo Vidal d'Almeida Ribeiro,

28. As the first mandate-holder, Angelo Vidal d'Almeida Ribeiro, submitted his initial report on 24 December 1986; there are now 20 years of mandate experience.
28- وقد مر الآن عشرون عاماً على الخبرة التي اكتسبتها الولاية منذ أن قام السيد أنجيلو فيلال دالميدا ريبيرو، بصفته أول مكلف بالولاية في هذا الإطار، بتقديم تقريره الأولي في 24 كانون الأول/ديسمبر 1986.

43. In his annual report submitted to the Commission on Human Rights in 1993, the first mandate holder, Angelo Vidal d'Almeida Ribeiro, noted " how difficult it is to curb or eradicate the propagation of extremist and fanatical opinions and overcome the distrust opposing members of certain denominations.
43- وقد أشار المقرر الخاص الأول المكلف بهذه الولاية، أنجيلو فيدال دالميدا ريبيرو، في تقريره السنوي المقدم إلى مفوضية حقوق الإنسان في عام 1993، إلى " مدى صعوبة الحد من انتشار الآراء المتطرفة والمتعصبة أو القضاء عليها والتغلب على عدم الثقة بين أعضاء بعض الطوائف.
