14. On 21 November 2011, the substantive trial of Nuon Chea, Ieng Sary and Khieu Samphan began with the co-prosecutors' opening statements, which covered the entire indictment.

13. On 29 September 2014, the defence teams of Noun Chea and Khieu Samphan filed notices of appeal to the Supreme Court Chamber in which they alleged extensive series of errors of fact and law invalidating the judgement of the Trial Chamber.
