Until 7 May this year, the Crown's sovereignty and jurisdiction around South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands extended to the 12-mile limit of the territorial sea.

24. The ICESCR currently applies to Bermuda, the British Virgin Islands, the Cayman Islands, the Falkland Islands, Gibraltar, Montserrat, the Pitcairn Islands, St Helena and its dependencies, South Georgia and South Sandwich Islands (though they are not populated) and the Turks and Caicos Islands.
24- ينطبق العهد الدولي الخاص بالحقوق الاقتصادية والاجتماعية والثقافية حالياً على برمودا وجزر فيرجين البريطانية وجزر كايمان وجزر فوكلاند وجبل طارق ومونتسيرات وجزر بيتكرن وسانت هيلينا وتوابعها وجزر ساوث جورجيا وساوث ساندويتش (ولو أنها غير مأهولة) وجزر تركس وكايكوس.

21. On 7 May 1993, the Government of the Argentine Republic issued the following statement with regard to a measure adopted by the Government of the United Kingdom extending its jurisdiction in respect of maritime spaces surrounding the South Georgia and South Sandwich Islands: 3/
٢١ - وفي ٧ أيار/مايو ١٩٩٣، أصدرت حكومة الجمهورية اﻷرجنتينية البيان التالي بشأن اﻹجراء الذي اتخذته حكومة المملكة المتحدة بتوسيع ولايتها الشرعية فيما يتعلق بالمساحات البحرية المحيطة بجزر ساوث جورجيا وساوث ساندوتش)٣(:

" The Argentine Government strongly rejects this measure, reaffirms the legitimate rights of sovereignty of the Argentine Republic over the South Georgia and South Sandwich Islands and recalls that these territories form part of the dispute concerning sovereignty which the United Nations recognizes and is keeping under consideration. "
" إن الحكومة اﻷرجنتينية ترفض بقوة هذا اﻹجراء، وتؤكد من جديد حقوق السيادة المشروعة التي تتمتع بها الجمهورية اﻷرجنتينية على جزر ساوث جورجيا وساوث ساندوتش، وتذكر بأن هذه اﻷقاليم تشكل جزءا من النزاع المتعلق بالسيادة الذي تعترف به اﻷمم المتحدة وتواصل إبقاءه قيد نظرها " .

The Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland has no doubt about the sovereignty of the United Kingdom over the Falkland Islands, South Georgia and South Sandwich Islands and rejects as unfounded the claim by the Government of Argentina to sovereignty over those islands and the surrounding maritime areas and that the Falkland Islands are under illegal occupation by the United Kingdom.
وليس لدى حكومة المملكة المتحدة لبريطانيا العظمى وأيرلندا الشمالية أي شك في سيادة المملكة المتحدة على جزر فوكلاند وجزيرتي ساوث جورجيا وساوث ساندويتش وترفض ادعاء حكومة الأرجنتين الذي لا أساس له بسيادتها على هذه الجزر وعلى المناطق البحرية المحيطة بها، وبأن المملكة المتحدة تحتل جزر فوكلاند بشكل غير شرعي.
