We wish to affirm to the majority of the Somali people, on whose behalf and by whose mandate we have deliberated at Sodere, that we shall work without any hesitation or reservation for peace and reconciliation to make Somalia a better place to live in.

However, we have resolved solemnly to pledge our commitment to carry out the terms of the agreements we have signed at Sodere and to discharge our responsibilities to our people.

Regarding the Sodere declarations, they stressed: " what has been achieved at Sodere under the auspices of the IGAD countries is sufficiently inclusive to merit the full support of the United Nations " .
وفيما يتعلق بإعلاني سوديري، أكدتا " أن ما تم إنجازه في سوديري تحت رعاية البلدان اﻷعضاء في الهيئة الحكومية الدولية المعنية بالتنمية يعتبر كافيا ويستحق الدعم الكامل لﻷمم المتحدة " .

We the delegates, participants of the High-level Consultative Meeting at Sodere, Ethiopia, representing the Somali political movements, signatories of the agreement reached at Sodere to establish the National Salvation Council, hereby solemnly declare by this act our full commitment and pledge:
نحن المندوبين المشتركين في الاجتماع الاستشاري الرفيع المستوى المعقود في سوديري، إثيوبيا، والممثلين للحركات السياسية الصومالية، الموقعين على الاتفاق الذي تم التوصل إليه في سوديري ﻹنشاء مجلس اﻹنقاذ الوطني، نُعلن رسميا بموجب هذه الوثيقة التزامنا وتعهدنا الكاملين بما يلي:

Our Somali friends know full well, better than anyone else, why I say this and what lies behind the emphasis I give to what has been achieved at Sodere in terms of the renunciation of individual interests in favour of the common good.
وأن أصدقاءنا الصوماليين يعرفون تمام المعرفة أكثر من غيرهم ما الذي يجعلني أقول ذلك الكلام وما هي الخلفية التي تكمن وراء إبرازي لﻹنجاز الذي تحقق في سوديري من حيث نبذ المصالح الفردية وإعلاء الصالح العام.

What was also evident was the spirit of cooperation and compromise in working out differences and a willingness to forge lasting solutions to the problems that have plagued Somalia in the past six years, as well as the determination to implement the agreement signed at Sodere.
ومما اتضح أيضا روح التعاون والتوصل إلى حلول توفيقية لتسوية الخلافات ووجود استعداد ﻹيجاد حلول دائمة للمشاكل التي عانى منها الصومال في السنوات الست الماضية فضلا عن التصميم على تنفيذ الاتفاق الموقع في سوديري.

The call was all the more diabolical because it was made during the most critical phase of the Sodere High-level Consultation of the Somali faction leaders, a process that was publicly supported by the Sudan as a member of the Intergovernmental Authority on Drought (IGAD) family.

They examined the developments in the peace process and recalled previous efforts undertaken in Djibouti, Nairobi, Mogadishu and Sana'a, as well as, more recently, the Sodere and Cairo agreements and the Addis Ababa meeting of the National Salvation Council.

D. THE Sodere SPIRIT
