In these conditions, there are very serious reasons to fear that the radical alignment on such an integration choice will fail to bring the two parties to the conflict together and achieve the " mutually acceptable political solution to their dispute over Western Sahara " to which the Security Council remains attached.

His recommendation was endorsed by the Security Council in its resolutions 1324 (2000) and 1342 (2001), in which the Council asked the two parties to " try to agree upon a mutually acceptable political solution to their dispute over Western Sahara " . The Council reiterated its call on the same terms in its resolution 1349 (2001) of 27 April 2001.
