During the course of 2000, several panel discussions on the topic of ICT were organized by the Division for Economic and Social Council Support and Coordination, in collaboration with agencies and organizations of the United Nations system, for delegations to the Economic and Social Council and the Second Committee of the General Assembly.

In 2000, the Division for Economic and Social Council Support and Coordination of the Department of Economic and Social Affairs assisted the Economic and Social Council in taking a leadership role in bringing the question of information and communication technology (ICT) for development to the forefront of intergovernmental attention at the United Nations.
