On 31 March 2009, by its decision 63/417 B, the General Assembly, on the recommendation of the Internal Justice Council (see A/63/489/Add.1), appointed the following persons as ad litem judges of the Dispute Tribunal: Mr. Michael Adams (Australia), Mr. Jean-François Cousin (France) and Ms. Nkemdilim Amelia Izuako (Nigeria).

On 18 June 2010, by its decision 64/417 B, the General Assembly, on the recommendation of the Internal Justice Council (see A/64/791), appointed Ms. Marilyn J. Kaman (United States of America) as ad litem judge of the Dispute Tribunal in New York upon the departure of Judge Michael Adams.

As also indicated in document A/65/679, in accordance with article 3 (2) of the statute of the Appeals Tribunal, its judges shall be appointed by the General Assembly on the recommendation of the Internal Justice Council in accordance with resolution 62/228, and no two judges shall be of the same nationality.

At its 78th plenary meeting, on 31 March 2009, the General Assembly, pursuant to the above-mentioned resolution, and on the recommendation of the Internal Justice Council (see A/63/489/Add.1), appointed the following persons as ad litem judges of the Dispute Tribunal: Mr. Michael Adams (Australia), Mr. Jean-François Cousin (France), and Ms. Nkemdilim Amelia Izuako (Nigeria) (see General Assembly decision 63/417 B).

At its 81st plenary meeting, on 29 March 2010, the General Assembly, pursuant to its decision 64/553 of 29 March 2010, and on the recommendation of the Internal Justice Council, decided to extend the terms of office of the three ad litem judges of the United Nations Dispute Tribunal, namely Mr. Michael Adams (Australia), Mr. Jean-François Cousin (France) and Ms. Nkemdilim Amelia Izuako (Nigeria), for an additional year beginning on 1 July 2010.

At its 98th plenary meeting, on 18 June 2010, the General Assembly, pursuant to its decision 64/553 of 29 March 2010, and on the recommendation of the Internal Justice Council, appointed Ms. Marilyn Kaman (United States of America) as an ad litem judge of the United Nations Dispute Tribunal for a one-year term of office beginning on 1 July 2010, as a result of the resignation of Mr. Michael Adams.

At its 105th plenary meeting, on 29 June 2011, the General Assembly, pursuant to its resolution 65/251 of 24 December 2010, and on the recommendation of the Internal Justice Council, decided to extend the terms of office of two of the three ad litem judges of the United Nations Dispute Tribunal, namely Mr. Jean-François Cousin (France) and Ms. Nkemdilim Amelia Izuako (Nigeria), for an additional six months beginning on 1 July 2011.
