No sooner had the war come to an end in the South than another conflict broke out in Darfur in western Sudan as a result of the environmental conditions striking the region in the form of drought and desertification, which affected the limited resources and led to competition for them. This competition took on a different complexion with the spread of weapons flooding in from neighbouring countries.

No sooner had the war ended in the south than another conflict was triggered in Darfur in western Sudan as a result of the environmental problems of drought and desertification that befell the region, affecting the limited resources. The resulting competition for those resources then took another turn with the proliferation of arms flowing in from neighbouring countries.
وما أن وضعت الحرب أوزارها بالجنوب حتى اندلعت شرارة أخرى للنزاع في دارفور غرب السودان نتيجة للظروف البيئية التي ضربت الإقليم من جفاف وتصحر وتأثير ذلك على الموارد المحدودة والتي حدث التنافس حولها وأخذ هذا التنافس منحى آخر بانتشار السلاح المتدفق من دول الجوار.

The Sudan was striving to address issues in post-conflict areas in the South and in western Sudan and was cooperating fully with the African Union-United Nations Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID).
