In accordance with provisions contained in article 41 of the Convention giving coastal States the right to designate sea lanes and stipulate traffic separation schemes for straits used for international navigation, Indonesia and the neighbouring countries of Malaysia and Singapore have advanced a proposal for new and amended traffic separation schemes in the Straits of Malacca.
