1. The Argentine Republic is a party to the core treaties on international humanitarian law and recently ratified the first Protocol to the 1954 Hague Convention for the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict.

It also calls upon all States that have not yet done so to consider becoming parties to the 1954 Convention for the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict and the two Protocols thereto, and to other relevant treaties on international humanitarian law relating to the protection of victims of armed conflict.

The sixtieth anniversary of the Hague Convention for the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict and its First Protocol (1954) has drawn attention to attacks on cultural heritage, most recently in Libya, Mali and the Syrian Arab Republic.
