The prevention and reduction of drug abuse among young people is one of the issues that countries must address if they expect to achieve long-term results in demand reduction.

With the aim of achieving significant results in reducing demand for drugs by 2008, UNODC continued to focus on drug abuse prevention, particularly among young people. Prevention work at the global level focused on more effective approaches to preventing the abuse of amphetamine-type stimulants, with training modules for policymakers and non-governmental organizations on the prevention of such abuse.

Unless Member States and international organizations are able to fill such gaps, it will be difficult to assess the progress made in the reduction of demand for illicit drugs in the next few years.
وما لم تستطع الدول الأعضاء والمنظّمات الدولية سد تلك الثغرات، سيكون من الصعب تقييم التقدّم المحرز في خفض الطلب على المخدّرات غير المشروعة في السنوات القليلة القادمة.
