43. The General Assembly, at its twenty-third special session in June 2000, strongly reaffirmed the importance of the gender mainstreaming strategy to the achievement of the goals set out in the Beijing Platform for Action for women's empowerment.

The Secretary-General has the honour to transmit herewith the statement of the Administrative Committee on Coordination to the General Assembly at its twenty-third special session (see annex).

Objective: To promote the effective implementation of the Beijing Declaration and the Platform for Action of the Fourth World Conference on Women and the outcome of their review by the General Assembly at its twenty-third special session, held in June 2000.

The Commission also recalls and reiterates the outcome document adopted at the twenty-third special session of the General Assembly entitled " Gender equality, development and peace in the twenty-first century " , which emphasized that men must take joint responsibility with women for the promotion of gender equality.
كما تذكر اللجنة وتؤكد من جديد الوثيقة الختامية التي اعتمدتها الجمعية العامة في دورتها الاستثنائية الثالثة والعشرين المعنونة " المساواة بين الجنسين والتنمية والسلام في القرن الحادي والعشرين " ، والتي أكدت وجوب تحمل الرجال والنساء المسؤولية المشتركة عن تعزيز المساواة بين الجنسين؛

the twenty-third special session of the General Assembly identified natural disasters as a current challenge affecting the full implementation of the Platform for Action and emphasized the need to incorporate a gender perspective in the development and implementation of disaster prevention, mitigation and recovery strategies.
وحددت الجمعية العامة في دورتها الاستثنائية الثالثة والعشرين الكوارث الطبيعية على أنها تشكل تحديا حاليا يؤثر على التنفيذ الكامل لمنهاج العمل وشددت على ضرورة إدماج منظور جنساني في وضع وتنفيذ استراتيجيات منع الكوارث والتخفيف من حدتها والانتعاش بعد حدوثها.
