The Director of Change Management has been designated as the Department's Chief Information Officer and is responsible for identifying and prioritizing the Department's information management needs, relying on the expertise resident in the Office of Mission Support for the design, support and maintenance of the Department's information management systems (see A/C.5/55/46/Add.1, para. 5.3).

In its recent report on the comprehensive management audit of the Department of Peacekeeping Operations,5 OIOS recommended that the Communications and Information Technology Service in the Office of Mission Support be repositioned to report directly to the Under-Secretary-General in order to provide services and strategic technological leadership to the Department, and not only to the field missions.

A significant part of the plan of action regarding the implementation of the recommendations contained in the report of the Panel on United Nations Peace Operations has been the restructuring of the Personnel Management and Support Service of the Office of Mission Support of the Department of Peacekeeping Operations (see A/C.5/55/46 and Corr.1 and A/C.5/55/46/Add.1, paras. 5.45-5.62).
