(13) The Committee takes note of the information provided by the delegation on the conditions of detention in Syrian prisons.
13) وتحيط اللجنة علماً بالمعلومات التي قدمها الوفد بشأن أوضاع الاحتجاز في السجون السورية.

Although the information provided by the delegation about overcrowding in prisons was welcome, the important point was that there should be respect for prisoners' rights, compliance with the standard minimum rules and proper segregation of prisoners.
28- وعلى الرغم من أن المعلومات التي قدمها الوفد بشأن اكتظاظ السجون هي موضع ترحيب، فإن النقطة الهامة هي ضرورة احترام حقوق السجناء والامتثال للقواعد النموذجية الدنيا والفصل بين السجناء على النحو الواجب.

(5) The Committee also welcomes the information provided by the delegation about the National Human Rights Policy and Plan of Action currently under development aimed at integrating human rights in the national planning process.

Notwithstanding the assurances provided by the delegation concerning the direct applicability of article 1 of the Convention pursuant to the provision of article 6, paragraph 1, of the Constitution, the Committee notes the absence of a definition of racial discrimination in the law of the State party.

(5) The Committee notes the information given by the delegation about a decision of the Plenum of the Supreme Court of 10 October 2003 instructing general courts in their obligation to be guided by relevant international treaties, including human rights treaties.

The Committee is further concerned about the limited information provided by the delegation regarding measures to improve the status of women of African descent in the State party.
